Spring edition 21.-24. MAR 2019

An international puppet theatre festival for the international puppet day: an extraordinary program to immerse yourself in the world of puppetry. In addition to the biographical work „Sunshine and Rain – How I became a puppeteer“ by the Austrian puppet artist Heini Brossmann (Theater Trittbrettl), we are presenting for the first time in Vienna the Sofie Krog Teater from Denmark and the documentary movie „Resistance Puppetry“ from ORF editor Sabina Zwitter-Grilc.

Initially trained in Physical Theater and Method Acting, Sofie Krog entered the Puppet Universe in 2002. Since then she has worked as a self-taught puppeteer and puppet maker on her own pieces. In 2004, she produced her first solo performance, DIVA, which stunned the international puppet scene. Her innovative concepts, gripping stories and abstruse but tangible characters amaze the audience and whet guests appetite for more. That’s why we are showing a retrospective of her three solo pieces „DIVA“, „The House“ and the latest „Circus Funestus“.
Heini Brossmann has been on stage since the early 80s and founded the Theater Trittbrettl. In the last 20 years he insistently tries to refute the prejudice, puppet theater is for children only. The dialogue with the public, always conscious of its offering to theater for young and old, is the focus here.
As accompanying programme to the festival the documentation „Resistance Puppetry“ from ORF editor Sabina Zwitter-Grilc will be shown as well. The documentary shows artists who are rebeling against the world’s rulers with their puppets. A resistant film documentary with Neville Tranter, Matija Solce, Ariel Doron, Nikolaus Habjan and many more.

DIVA (Sofie Krog Teater)
Thu, 21.3. 19:30, nonverbal
In the depths of a dark and quirky cabaret, the lives of a beautiful diva, her lovesick butler, a mischievous lab assistant and a beyond-mad scientist are about to collide.
Audience members are lured into the mystery within the cabaret walls as each character endures an ill-fated night that may well be their last.

THE HOUSE (Sofie Krog Teater)
Fri, 22.3. 19:30, englisch/english
A comedy thriller: Miss Esperanza is dying and decides to change her last will. Instead of her nephew Henry and his wife Flora, the money and the house will be handed over to the orphans Tony and Bruno. Flora overhears the conversation between the lawyer and Miss Esperanza and forges a devious plan. On an inimitable humorous basis, terrible and disgusting events occur in and around the house.

CIRCUS FUNESTUS (Sofie Krog Teater)
Sat, 23.3. 19:30, englisch/english
The evening has begun, Circus Funestus entertains a contented audience with subtle and delicate tricks. But on this special evening, the microscopic hero of the story, Mr. Flea, confesses his love for the adorable elephant in the circus! This desperate declaration of love starts the intrigue – the evil villain, Mr. Whip, gets furious with jealousy and the otherwise entertaining show is about to collapse… Now begins a fast-paced and icy chase to rescue both – the love and the circus – from downfall. Welcome to a high-speed circus show where puppets, movies, music and transformative effects create a weird and magical universe!
